IT'S MY "BLOG-AVERSRY"!!!

IT'S MY "BLOG-AVERSRY"!!!

Today is my One Year BLOGAVERSARY!!! That’s right, one year ago today, I launched Black Widow’s Web! Check out my very first post HERE!   I launched this website initially to promote my music and other projects.  As time progressed, my thoughts shifted.  Chicago is home to a thriving house music scene.  We are fortunate to be the birthplace of this incredible genre of music we call house. I started thinking about all the amazing DJs, artists, producers, music and parties in our city and noticed there wasn’t a space for our stories to be told.  It’s so important to tell the story of our culture and to preserve it in some way for future generations, sharing our experiences and the wealth that is the Chicago House Scene.  I wanted to document my experience as a lover of house music and as a house music recording artist.  This website would be my contribution to sharing that rich story.

Thursday Night Grooves with Boogie Deep!

Every Thursday night you can find the Boogie Deep Family, the brainchild of resident DJ Daniell Spencer, groovin to the beat.  Created in 2012, Boogie Deep is his brand and he has built a very loyal following. He describes the “Boogie Deep Experience” as more than just the music. He moved his residency from the west side to Thursday nights at the President’s lounge and has cultivated it and made it one of the longest running Thursday night house events on the Southside.  Boogie Deep features resident DJ, Daniell Spencer and Carlie.  They also feature special guests. This weeks’ guest DJ was Tracey Love who fell right into the mix of an evening full of eclectic rhythms.

Renaissance Wednesday!!!

Renaissance Wednesday!!!

Walking into the Renaissance, I felt like I was stepping back in time. Located in Bronzeville, also known as the “Black Metropolis”, The Renaissance Bronzeville is a beautiful venue that combines vintage style with modern accents.   Reminiscent of old jazz clubs that used to line the Bronzeville neighborhood streets, the venue is full of ambiance and style.  Big Bands have been replaced by soulful DJs playing to an eclectic crowd of young professionals and seasoned house people.  Spacious and comfortable seating surround the perimeter of the club with a dedicated VIP area to the left of the DJ Booth.  There is a decent sized dance floor and a huge bar.  It feels intimate without feeling cramped.

CHOSEN FEW DJ'S PRESENT...THE SAUERS REUNION PARTY

CHOSEN FEW DJ'S PRESENT...THE SAUERS REUNION PARTY

House music became a definitive sound for Chicago’s youth in the 1980s.  During that time, teenagers and young adults had safe spaces to party.  Sauer’s was one of those spaces.  According to Robert Williams, the legend responsible for opening the Warehouse and the Music Box, Sauers was originally an old carriage house that eventually became a restaurant that converted into a dance hall at night.   Sauers was known by many in Chicago for their Polo, Izod, and Pizza Fest “theme parties” and classic DJ battles

FOREPLAY...ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!

FOREPLAY...ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!

It was a beautiful weekend in Chicago.  The weather was unseasonably warm and Chicago was coming off of an epic World Series win for the Chicago Cubs after a 108 year wait.  The city was buzzing with celebrations.  Saturday night, I headed downtown to the Underground Wonder Bar to a party hosted by PS Entertainment.  Tonight’s musical selectors included PS Entertainment's, DJ Ronnie, D’Vine One’s, DJ 50 Millz, and T’s Box producer, Dee Jay Alicia.
