Saturday evening I made my way to the Born Vain Art Bar to perform with Herban Soul Radio as they celebrated the birthday of fellow poet and writer, Brother Amir. This particular evening featured Poet WrittenInpain from New York and KeSera from Wisconsin and myself. The Born Vain Art Bar is owned by artist, Michael Cox. He’s best known for his hand painted works of wearable art but he also has beautiful works captured on canvas. The Born Vain Art Bar beautifully displays his work! Check him out www.bornvain.com! The atmosphere was intimate and family like. I like shows like this. You can literally feel the energy from the audience. It was a full house and the poetry was powerful!!!!!!
KeSera is a lyrical beast. She’s such a gifted and talented person. Her delivery will grab you and keep you completely hanging on to every word. Fellow Poets, Hoodraised and Unscripted came by to show Brother Amir some love and share some powerful poems of love! They had the ladies salivating by the end of the evening. I performed a new piece that I wrote called “He feels me”. It tells the story of what happens to a woman when she is loved properly. I’ve often said there is power in love and my poem was a reflection of that truth. It was my first time hearing the work of WrittenInPain and I hope it won’t be the last. He was humorous; light hearted and honest in his content and flow. After the poetry came the celebration... the party….DJ’s Steve Maxwell and Steve Price kept the groove going as everyone danced the night away. Soulful poets and soulful grooves…it’s the perfect combination for another enjoyable evening in Chicago!
Till we meet again….
