"Flirt & Flow"
This past weekend was full of musical artistry at its finest. Friday I headed to Room 2 for “Flirt & Flow”, the latest project by artist, Russoul. Flirt & Flow is a new experience that puts the focus on the artist. In his own words, Russoul wanted an experience that allowed him to introduce artists he loves, admires and respects. Russoul encourages fellow artists to come out and see what this new experience is all about. Joining him in this new venture are singers, Jon Pierce and Sheree Hicks. Both of these amazing artists are similar in their ability to pour their hearts out on the stage and connect with their audiences. They have shared their gifts and in their performances we dance to the words they bring to life. I’m looking forward to the continued evolution of this event. An event to celebrate artists and their gifts is much needed in Chicago.
Hyde Park Brew Fest
Sunday, I headed to the Hyde Park brew best. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and cool breezes filled the air. Patrons enjoyed food from local restaurants and a sampling of beers and ciders from various Midwest breweries. Local vendors lined the streets with various art, jewelry, and apparel. The soundtrack for Sunday’s festivities was provided by an incredible lineup of DJs that included DJ AMPM, Toure, J. Grilla, DJ Pharris, Chosen Few DJs Alan King and Terry Hunter and Jazzy Jeff closed out the night.
I arrived during DJ Pharris set and worked up a sweat dancing to house music classics. Pharris enjoyed his set as much as the patrons did. He was dancing while spinning and it was evident he was having a great time. That’s the kind of energy that fuels a crowd. Next was Chosen Few DJ Alan King who skillfully ushered the crowd into a soulful, melodic set filled with messages of unity and hope. His sets are always uplifting and full of positive messages. His musical selections were as diverse as the Hyde Park Community. Grammy Nominated Producer and Chosen Few DJ, Terry Hunter took over next and had a now jammed packed festival rocking!! Terry is a DJ who truly knows his crowd. He was able to give them hard hitting afro beats, and then switch to soulful/R&B grooves sprinkling in a few classics for nostalgia. The energy of the crowd was at a fever pitch during his set. Closing out this stellar evening was DJ Jazzy Jeff. He skillfully and masterfully wowed the crowd and took them on a musical journey. He played some of our favorite hip hop, R&B and soul jams that most of us grew up with. He also knew he was in Chicago and threw in a few classic house jams that the crowd received with joy. We also were treated to a special freestyle from Chicago Artist, Rhymefest, who is also prominently featured on Jazzy Jeff’s latest release M3. He was a joy to watch and at times, I was stunned by his musical selection and effortless blends. Who blends Old Dirty Bastard with Stevie Wonder effortlessly? It was an incredible set that I enjoyed from beginning to end. Watching the crowd sing his hit “Summertime” on a beautiful summer night in Chicago was a highlight!
As MC and radio personality, Leon Rodgers said, “This is the Chicago they don’t want you to see”. It was a peace and love filled day with people of all ages, races enjoying food, drinks and music. Another perfect weekend in #summertimechi!
Until next time, see you on a dance floor

The result was threefold; a night filled with love, raising money for a family that’s been a part of this community for decades and an opportunity to show what happens when we gather together united by the music for a common purpose. It’s what a community feels like. Its how a community operates and behaves. It’s incredibly special and feels amazing and it’s what I love about this music scene and why I continue to be a part of it... moments like these, when we come together...In spite of it all.Read More
