Songs of Summer!

There is nothing like Chicago in the summertime.  There are so many outdoor picnics, BBQs, and parties.  House music is always in the air.  Some of my favorite songs trigger the best summertime memories.  When I hear certain songs, they take me back to some of the best moments of summertime past and some new music reminds me that this summer is going to be better than ever! Here are five of my favorite summertime tracks!

Chantay Savage and Terry Hunter “Summertime.”

This soulful and upbeat song perfectly describes summer in Chicago.  It’s perfect for beach days, picnics, bbq’s and parties!

Byron Moore “Life Starts Today”

This is one of my all-time favorite tracks! Its message is so uplifting and hopeful. I remember playing this song as I was transitioning into a new life as a single woman after my divorce. It reminds me of the summer after we split. I had the best summer with my friends!!! This song still brings up those awesome memories!

Elbert Phillips and Mike Dunn featuring Terrance Downs “Feeling Good.”

A remake of the classic Nina Simone song reminds me of the freedom that summer brings.  “It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me and I’m feeling good!”  I sing that lyric so loud in the club and when I’m listening to this on my own!

Sean Escoffrey “Days Like This”

This is a summer staple at parties and summer events.  I sit back and enjoy a day filled with friends, fun and music! On a beautiful day it’s just perfect!

Axwell and Bob Sinclair featuring Ron Carroll “What a Wonderful World.”

I love this uplifting message of unity on this song. I remember Mike Dunn of the Chosen Few playing this song two years ago at the Chosen Few Festival and everyone was jumping up and down and dancing. It was a moment of beautiful unity and reminds me of the power of music.  It truly can heal and unify!

Summer is a time for making memories, and house music is my life’s soundtrack! What are some of your summertime favorite songs and what memories do they bring back?

Until next time,

See ya on a dancefloor!
