Singer, Songwriter, producer and musician, Van Hunt is one of the most underrated underground artists of our generation.  His music and artistry fits no label and crosses genres with ease.  He is soul, funk, R&B, rock and roll and more.   City Winery Chicago is known for bringing some of the best musical artists to their beautiful location in the West Loop/Randolph Street location and this past Tuesday was no different.   It’s been six years since his last tour and Van Hunt did not disappoint with his sold out show at City Winery Tuesday night.  Charismatic and engaging, Van Hunt connected intimately  with the audience with just his voice, a drum machine and guitars.  It was raw, intense and deeply personal.

Thursday evening, I headed to Wicker Park to attend Songs and Stories with Zo! And Carmen Rodgers.  Presented by the Armour Agency and held at Davenports Piano Bar Cabaret, the evening was a perfect blend of artistry and musicianship.  Davenports Piano Bar Cabaret was the perfect space for such an intimate affair.  Appropriately titled, “Piano & A Microphone”, these two incredibly talented artists performed to a sold-out crowd in the most intimate of settings.

Dwele is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrument musician who’s has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards.  Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, he was introduced to the masses singing the hook of the J Dilla produced, Slum Village single, “Tainted”.   With five critically acclaimed albums under his belt, he is an artist rooted in the Motown tradition of Soul Music.  he has collaborated with Kanye West, Boney James, He brought his musical talents to Chicago’s City Winery, a beautiful and intimate venue that were the perfect fit for an evening of love, lust, and romance.  Dwele played to a packed house for the early 7pm show at City Winery.  Accompanied by his band all dressed in ivory, Dwele took the audience on a musical journey through his 15+ year career, performing crowd favorites from his albums, Subject, Some Kinda and Sketches of a Man, W.ants W.orld W.omen and Greater Than One.
