The Weekend Wrap-Up: Ascension & Soulfica

12.10.17weekendwrapup

This weekend I headed to the Cove on Chicago’s South Side for “Ascension”.  Presented by Lisa Henderson of Redd Diva Productions, and hosted by Lady Alicia and Josiah Mendel, the event featured DJs Terry Simmons, Jozana, DJ Boxx and New Jersey’s own, DJ Beloved.  The Cove was a large space perfect for hosting a dance party.  From the moment I walked into the Cove, I felt welcomed.   I was greeted warmly after coming inside from the cold.  The hosts for the evening made everyone feel appreciated.   After some drinks and dancing, I headed to see what treats were in store and wasn’t disappointed, caterer, Sharon Fields, had an outstanding menu that was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked.  Joanette Jackson’s deserts were so good! I kept coming back for the Hennessey cupcakes!!!!    It was perfect sustenance for a night full of dancing.  Taking in good music while taking a dance break I was able to mingle with friends and enjoy laughter, conversations and plenty of picture taking with photographer for the evening, Tracy Love.    The room was filled with loving vibes with people united by their love of the music. The Sound Selectors for the evening played diverse sets full of soul and afro grooves.   This was my first time grooving to DJ Beloved.   His set was fantastic; full of energy and diverse song selection!  They set the mood for the evening and from the opening set until the last beat drop they delivered the perfect soundtrack for the evening.

Sunday I headed over to my new regular spot, Soulfrica Sundays at the Renaissance Bronzeville.   It’s nice to have a regular spot for my Sunday Evenings again!  DJs Greg Winfield and Terry Hunter were joined this week by special guest DJ, Steve Maxwell.  Steve complimented the duo of Greg and Terry with his signature smooth and soulful sounds.   Greg Winfield, fresh off his #1 single, took the crowd on a musical journey and Terry Hunter closed the evening with finesse.  The energy was good, the vibe was positive and the music was incredible! Another incredible weekend in house music with some of the most talented DJs in Chicago!

Until next time,

See ya on a Dancefloor!
